My dentist is always surprised at how healthy my teeth and gums are.
The last time I went in for a cleaning, the hygienist asked what toothpaste I use because my teeth looked so good.
When I told her "none," she thought I was joking.
I wasn't.
You guys might already know I don’t use toothpaste.
If you think that’s extreme…
Well, a new report from Lead Safe Mama just found 90% of commercial toothpastes tested positive for LEAD.
And not just lead.
Of the 51 brands they tested, 65% contained arsenic, almost half had mercury, and one-third contained cadmium.
Even the “green” brands and children's toothpastes were contaminated!
I mean, this is absolutely insane to me…
These are literal neurotoxins we’re putting our mouths and our children’s mouths twice daily!
I've been warning about commercial toothpaste for YEARS…
People thought I was crazy.
Friends and colleagues would look at me sideways when I'd tell them I don’t use the stuff.
And I'd just laugh because I knew the truth…
Commercial toothpaste is one of the most unnecessary, potentially harmful things we put in our bodies on a daily basis.
Of course, my main reasoning here has always been issues with fluoride which I’ve spoken about many times…
And it looks like now I can officially add heavy metals to my list of arguments!
Here’s the thing too…
Even fluoride-free toothpastes are allowed to contain lead up to 10,000 parts per billion.
(Gotta love the FDA’s arbitrary limits that have nothing to do with human health!)
For perspective, California's limit on lead in baby food is SIX parts per billion.
I mean, no level of lead exposure is safe. None. Zero.
The CDC openly acknowledges this too.
So why are WE allowing ANY lead in products we put in our mouths twice a day?
Bottom line…
Toothpaste = marketing scam that's potentially HARMING your health.
And if you’re thinking “but surely you need to brush your teeth!”
You do.
And I’ll explain how I do it in just a sec…
But first, it’s important to understand this in a way that makes sense from an evolutionary perspective.
So here’s a question…
Did our ancestors brush with Crest? Did indigenous tribes that had perfect dental health despite never seeing a dentist use Colgate?
Of course not!
Our ancestors didn't have rampant tooth decay until the introduction of processed foods and sugar.
The archaeological records shows this clearly…
You can look at skulls from pre-agricultural societies and see perfect teeth. No cavities, no impacted wisdom teeth, no periodontal disease.
Then look at skulls after the introduction of agriculture and processed carbohydrates. The difference is night and day.
Weston A. Price documented this extensively in his research in the 1930s.
He traveled to remote indigenous communities around the world and found that people eating their traditional diets had nearly perfect dental health - straight teeth, no cavities, wide dental arches.
But then he'd visit communities where processed foods had been introduced - white flour, sugar, canned goods.
And within a single generation…
He documented dramatic INCREASES in dental decay, crowded teeth, and narrowed dental arches.
Same genetic background, completely different outcomes based solely on diet.
His photographic evidence is absolutely stunning:
If this isn’t PROOF that the entire premise of needing to "clean" your teeth with chemical pastes is flawed, I don’t know what is!
So, all I do is brush my teeth with WATER (using a natural fiber tooth brush made from boar’s hair bristles).
The point of brushing your teeth is to just disrupt the biofilm (a sticky layer of bacteria that forms on the surface of your teeth, gums and tongue aka. mostly plaque).
You don’t need the harsh abrasives or fluoride, trust me.
And no, I don’t have bad breath at all.
If YOU have bad breath…
It's likely a sign you have dysbiosis in your gut.
Not because you’re NOT using a minty toothpaste.
So, like most things with human health, it all comes back to the quality of the foods you eat.
Focus on animal-based foods that support proper oral and gut health.
This is non-negotiable.
And until you cut out the seed oils, sugar, and processed foods, no amount of brushing will fix the underlying issues.
But look, if you absolutely must use something because your partner’s complaining or you’re worried about what other people think…
Look for truly natural options without the problematic ingredients (that have been tested for heavy metals too).
Remember - humans survived for thousands of generations without Crest, Colgate, or any commercial toothpaste.
Your mouth's health begins with what you eat, not what you brush with!
