Avoid sunscreen (do this instead)

Summer is here...

And if you're slathering on sunscreen thinking you're doing something good for your health…

Stop.

First of all…

The Environmental Working Group found that nearly 75% of sunscreens don't work as advertised and/or contain concerning ingredients.

Many don't even provide the SPF protection listed on the bottle!

Now, the presence of oxybenzone in sunscreens HAS dropped from 70% in 2016 to just 9% in 2025.

Which is great…

But they didn’t do it for your health…

They did it because places like Hawaii and Key West have banned these chemicals for killing coral reefs.

That’s right.

They only stopped poisoning you when they realized they were also poisoning the ocean!

And listen, guys…

This stuff really is POISON.

I’ll go as far as to say that conventional sunscreen might be MORE dangerous than the sun itself.

I know that sounds crazy...

But stick with me because what I'm about to share could completely change how you think about sun protection.

You see here's what most people don't know...

Many commercial sunscreens contain hormone-disrupting chemicals like oxybenzone, avobenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, and homosalate that are readily absorbed through your skin and detected in your blood, urine, and even breast milk.

This isn't speculation…

A recent FDA study found that after just ONE application of sunscreen to 75% of the body, these chemicals reached blood concentrations of up to 258.1 ng/ml for oxybenzone and 7.1 ng/ml for avobenzone - both FAR exceeding the FDA's safety threshold of 0.5 ng/ml (PMID: 31961417).

That means with a single use, you could be getting FIVE HUNDRED times more of these chemicals in your bloodstream than what the FDA considers “safe”

Studies also show these chemicals can disrupt your endocrine system and alter
hormone levels… (PMID: 40222174) 😬

Even worse?

The European Commission recently concluded that oxybenzone and homosalate are not safe at the concentrations commonly used in sunscreens, while octinoxate is only considered “safe” at levels up to 10%

(Whatever that means 🙄)

So while Europe is BANNING these chemicals, America is still letting companies put them in products you rub all over your skin every day!

Now, if you’re asking me, “Isn’t the SUN dangerous?”

Here's where mainstream medicine has gotten it completely wrong:

They want you to believe that ANY amount of sun exposure is harmful…

And that you should live like a vampire, hiding from the sun at all costs Bryan Johnson style 🧛🏻

That is evolutionary madness.

When your skin is exposed to sunlight, your body produces nitric oxide, which lowers blood pressure and improves cardiovascular health. UVA exposure can reduce blood pressure, potentially decreasing stroke and heart disease risk (PMID: 24445737).

Sunlight also triggers testosterone production in both men and women; helps raise vitamin D levels, and studies show this is linked with higher testosterone in men (PMID: 32375348).

Your skin also produces beta-endorphins in response to UV exposure - that's why being in the sun feels so good! These natural opioids promote a sense of well-being, reduce inflammation, and play a role in wound healing (PMID: 24949966).

(You literally CANNOT get these benefits from a vitamin D pill!)

So why would something that feels good, boosts your hormones, improves your cardiovascular health, and lowers inflammation also be trying to kill you?

It doesn’t make any sense.

Here's what I believe is really going on...

The problem isn't the sun itself - it's what we're putting IN our bodies and ON our skin that makes us susceptible to sun damage.

Research shows that diets high in omega-6 linoleic acid (found in seed oils) significantly increase skin cancer rates.

In animal studies, mice fed high linoleic acid diets developed more precancers and skin cancers much faster than control groups (PMID: 21525235)

Multiple studies link increasing melanoma rates since the 1960s to rising consumption of omega-6 seed oils rather than increased sun exposure (PMID: 16372927, PMID: 29636341).

When you eat canola oil, soybean oil, corn oil, and other seed oils, that linoleic acid gets incorporated into your cell membranes - INCLUDING your skin cells.

Since linoleic acid is highly susceptible to oxidation, having more of it in your skin makes you MORE likely to burn and develop skin problems when exposed to UV light.

So the very oils they tell you are "heart healthy" might be making your skin a ticking time bomb…

But it gets worse...

Many "natural" sunscreens use these same seed oils as their base!

You're literally putting the exact oils that make you burn more easily directly onto your skin, then wondering why you still get sun damage.

It's insanity.

Here’s what you should do instead:

#1 Ditch the chemical sunscreen immediately

#2 Build your solar tolerance naturally

Start with short exposures in the morning and evening when the sun is less intense. Gradually work up to longer periods.

Your skin will develop what's called a "solar callus" - essentially a natural tan that protects you far better than any chemical sunscreen ever could.

This is how humans have lived for hundreds of thousands of years.

#3 Clean up your diet

Remove ALL seed oils from your diet. That means:

  • No canola, soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, or peanut oil
  • No processed foods (they're loaded with these oils)
  • No restaurant food (they cook everything in seed oils)

Instead, cook with:

  • Grass-fed beef tallow
  • Grass-fed butter
  • Coconut oil (in moderation)

If you want to use a real safe sunscreen that actually works...

You can make your own version at home by combining grass-fed tallow, zinc oxide (around 20% for SPF 30), and beeswax.

The tallow deeply moisturizes your skin while the zinc oxide provides real UV protection without the toxic chemicals.

I use it all the time and it works great.

Bottom line…

The sun isn't your enemy - processed food and chemical sunscreens are.

Our ancestors spent their entire lives outdoors and didn't have the skin cancer rates we see today.

The difference? They ate real food and didn't slather endocrine disruptors all over their bodies.

Your skin is your largest organ.

What you put on it goes directly into your bloodstream.

Choose wisely. Embrace the sun responsibly. Build your tolerance gradually. Eat real food.

And if you need protection, use tallow and zinc oxide - not chemical warfare in a bottle!
