I'm sure you've heard people call salmon a "superfood"...
But there's something you NEED to know about most conventional salmon that might shock you…
It isn't even ORANGE naturally.
It's actually WHITE!
That beautiful orange-pink color you see in the store? It comes from synthetic dyes that are ADDED to their feed.
That’s right.
It’s basically fake orange salmon…
If you don’t believe me, check the label next time you're at the grocery store. You'll likely see "color added" right there.
I often use Atlantic salmon as an example to illustrate this in my reels on social media.
Virtually ALL Atlantic salmon is farm-raised (even if it doesn't explicitly say so), and these fish are essentially the aquatic equivalent of feedlot cattle.
They're kept in crowded pens, fed absolute GARBAGE, and given antibiotics to keep them from getting sick due to the horrible conditions they (literally) swim in.
That’s why without the coloring…
It’ll look more like a Tilapia with an off-white appearance.
The thing is, the coloring is probably the LEAST disgusting thing you’ll find inside Atlantic salmon feed…
Their feed is a toxic cocktail of:
❌ GMO grains (corn and soy)
❌ Other fish poop (yes, seriously 💩)
❌ PFAS (forever chemicals that are hormone disruptors)
❌ PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls)
❌ BPAs
❌ Microplastics
And more…
What do you think happens next?
ALL of these toxins and endocrine (hormone) disruptors will likely bioaccumulate in the fish...
And then in YOU when you eat it 🤢
(I haven't even talked about heavy metals here either…)
But look, I will not tell you to give up Salmon entirely…
Like I said, I personally do not eat it myself.
But if I did, I would go for something wild-caught like Sockeye salmon.
This is a much better choice because it actually eats REAL food like shrimp, crabs, and phytoplankton.
Giving it that NATURALLY deep orange-red color and far less inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids.
BUT... even wild salmon isn't free from the microplastic problem plaguing our oceans or potential heavy metal accumulation.
(This is why I personally stopped eating fish altogether)
The bottom line is…
Farm-raised salmon is marketed as a health food, but it's really industrial food dressed up in orange dye to fool you into thinking it's healthy.
The fact that they have to COLOR it should tell you everything you need to know...
Remember, optimal human nutrition comes from the most treasured foods our ancestors sought: meat, organs, fruit, honey, and raw dairy…
Not farm-raised fish fed an unnatural diet.
And I know it might SEEM like fish is a necessary source of omega-3s…
But here's the good news:
Contrary to popular belief…
You can get PLENTY of omega-3s without eating ANY fish.
How? From animal fat like grass-fed beef, butter, tallow, and egg yolks!
As you probably know, I do my bloodwork pretty regularly and share my results; my omega-3 index has NEVER come back low (below 4%).
Plus, when you avoid seed oils - which are loaded with omega-6 - your body becomes much better at converting ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) found in animal fat into the longer-chain omega-3s anyway.
So, I am living proof you do not need to eat fish to get enough omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.
Look, there’s no debate here…
100% grass-fed and finished meat is going to be your cleanest, most nutritious option simply because properly raised ruminants like cows, bison, and lamb provide complete nutrition WITHOUT the toxin exposure.
And as long as you're getting some organs in your diet too...
You'll get everything you need nutritionally with far fewer toxins than you would from regularly consuming fish.
However, I realize the organ piece is not as appetizing as some grilled salmon dressed in olive oil…
So if you want a better way to guarantee yourself all the bioavailable micronutrients that are locked in organs…
This is the best place to start
