Hooking kids = their business model

June 8, 2025

Even though both my parents were healthcare professionals…

There wasn't much emphasis on healthy eating in our home

We ate a pretty Standard American Diet.

TV Dinners…

Fast food…

Processed carbohydrates…

In those days, fat was the enemy too.

(You can thank the cereal and processed food industry for that!)

And after school, I remember ravenously devouring multiple bowls of cereal and never feeling full.

I also remember experiencing:

Irritability…

Asthma…

Eczema…

And it took me YEARS to resolve my health issues on my own.

However, I like to think many parents today are much more informed about making better food choices for their children.

We now know just how influential diet is on their physical, mental and emotional development.

How just by giving kids the right foods can be literally transformative for their health.

But make no mistake, we’re still fighting the same battles…

Big Food is still working HARD to make your kids BEG for nutritionally bereft foods and snacks.

I know that’s quite sinister to think about…

But hooking your kids on junk is their billion dollar business model.

All you need to do is look at the cereal aisle at your local supermarket for proof:

This is all by design.

Big food KNOW very well children are hypnotized by colorful packaging filled with TV superheroes and sports idols.

(And that’s before this addictive garbage even reaches their highly impressionable tastebuds).

I don't have kids yet.

And I would never tell a parent how to raise or feed their children.

But I do get asked questions about this topic a lot.

So, if you’re a parent reading this…

Here is how I would navigate the challenges of raising healthy children in today’s world (from a dietary perspective):

#1 Education

I know this is easier said than done sometimes.

But it really is down to us to educate our children and future generations so they do not fall for these marketing tricks.

I would encourage you to make things interesting and immersive for them.

Take them to a farmers market and have them help you pick things out...

Visit a farm and show them where their food comes from…

Cook with them!

The key is making it a FUN and interactive learning experience.

#2 Feed them the RIGHT carbohydrates

Kids need carbohydrates.

And let’s be honest, they LOVE sugar.

But that doesn’t mean you need to give in to candy and pop-tarts.

It also doesn’t mean you have to deprive them of things they love.

Fruity and raw honey provide all the natural sweetness growing children crave (with amazing health benefits!).

It’s up to YOU to get creative and give them these foods in a way that meets them where they’re at.

For instance, Animal-Based ice-cream is incredibly easy to make and super delicious (recipe here)

Or you can cook french fries in Grass-Fed Tallow (Like McDonald’s used to!).

#3 Focus on the real superfoods

You probably already know that when it comes to raising healthy, thriving kids, animal foods are essential.

These foods are rich in vitamins A, K2, B vitamins, and essential fatty acids like DHA and EPA, kids need these nutrients to thrive.

(And yes, I believe kids can absolutely eat an Animal-Based diet and do just fine with less vegetables… they’ll probably love you more too for not forcing broccoli on them 🤣)

Go for grass-fed meat if possible, high-fat raw dairy, pastured egg yolks, and fatty cuts… add butter and salt to everything.

I’m sure most parents reading have kids who love all the above anyway…

But when it comes to organs? That can be a whole different ball game.

However, organ meats are the absolute pinnacle of nutrition and are integral to raising healthy children.

Hope this helps!
